On the occasion the 7th International Day of Yoga (IDY), the Embassy of India in Slovenia launched a 15-day long Surya Festival of Yoga and Wellness on 21st June 2021 to celebrate and institutionalize the spirit of sharing knowledge of wellbeing with our friends in Slovenia each year.
With 1st day IDY2021 series of yoga sessions in Ljubljana, the 1st edition of SURYA Festival was launched jointly by Ambassador of India to Slovenia HE Ms Namrata S. Kumar and the Deputy Mayor Mr Dejan Crnek at Pogačarjev Square followed by sessions in Tivoli Park.
Day #3, 23 June 2021, in a seminar held at the co-organizing Faculty of Arts, University of Ljubljana where Ms Namrata S. Kumar, Ambassador of India to Slovenia, Prof. Dr. Roman Kuhar, Dean of the Faculty of Arts, University of Ljubljana and Prof. Dr. Janko Lozar Mrevlje, Head of the Philosophy Department opened the seminar, Dr. Nina Petek and Vaidya Ajil Veettil made insightful presentations on "Healing power of Yoga in the times of COVID19 pandemic".
Day #4, 24 June 2021, the Surya Festival was dedicated for children where special yoga sessions were held in Ljubljana’s beautiful Tivoli Park with dedicated yoga sessions for children. The event received enthusiastic little participants. As a prelaunch activity under the SURYA Festival, the Embassy had organized Art competition on the theme of Surya Namaskar where the children from the OŠ Livada Primary School, Vrtača kindergarten actively participated in the yoga sessions. Two pupils of the OŠ Livada Primary School were presented special awards for the best two paintings of the painting competition “Greet the Sun, Paint the Fun”.
The Surya Festival will also be taken to other cities of Slovenia ending with an event in Bled on 5 July; the programme is as follows:
