International Day of Non-Violence

Embassy of India in Ljubljana observed International Day of Non-violence marking the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, a global icon of peace and non-violence on 02 October 2025.  The day began by paying tribute to the statue of     Mahatma Gandhi in the city of Slovenj Gradec by Ambassador Mr. Amit Narang     together with the Mayor Mr. Tilen Krugler and the Member of the National Assembly Mr. Dusan Stojanovic.  The city of Slovenj Gradec known as city of peace connects both countries in their common commitment to peace and non-violence.   A tree was also planted in the city square park under the Prime Minister’s initiative  ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’.

A major event commemorating the International Day of Non-Violence and Gandhian thoughts was organised on 02 October 2025 featuring performance by the talented students of Slovenj Gradec High School titled ‘Peace and Value of Gandhi’s thoughts’.  Through their   innovative presentation, they showcased how the ideas of Gandhi remain relevant today and how they inspire youth world over.  A special screening of the exhibition on the ‘Human Cost of Terrorism’ was also organised representing the other end of the spectrum to non-violence, terrorism is a destructive ideology that takes innocent lives, shatters peace and destroys humanity.  The exhibition was viewed by the      senior officials from the Government of Slovenia, diplomatic community, local residents, students and members of the Indian diaspora.  The Mission also distributed copies of the book published by the school  on the reflections of Gandhian thoughts by the students during the event.
